Even more great reasons to switch to RSS

even-more-great-reasons-to-switch-to-rss

There’s even more good news using RSS…

In my last post I talked about some of the reasons many people have been turning to RSS in place of using a list management system.

Here are a few other interesting facts you may want to take note of as an online business owner:

  1. RSS is searchable.  You can search RSS just as Google would HTML content online.  This makes it really easy for site visitors to find the content they want
  2. RSS feeds aren’t blocked by email or spam filters.  If you’ve been using email management systems of any kind, you know how hard it is to overcome this.  The fact is, that email is so tampered with and spam so prevalent that many times you might use “blockable” words in you email content, not realizing so, and have your mails blocked from the inbox of many of your subscribers.  For example, a word such as “free” or phrases like “free money” may get your email blocked…but when you’re using RSS it’s simply not the case.
  3. RSS can be modified quite easily.  When you send out an email via email management system, it’s typically time stamped.  The content of that email once sent out cannot be revoked. Once it’s out there, that’s it.  Not so with RSS.  Any updates you create on your backend are immediately reflected in your post when site visitors go to read your site.

Just a few thoughts about RSS and your email management.  What are your thoughts?  Leave me a comment below…

Why should a business woman blog?

So a few people have asked me about blogging since my last post.

I’m a little unorthodox when it comes to the blogosphere, as well as podcasting. The way I see it is: blogging (as well as podcasting) can be done daily or on occasion and is all about getting your message across, or simply venting for the sake of it. And for you entrepreneurs, that means a whole lot!

It means you can give us details of your latest business incident, share your advice, or talk about your family (who says you can’t get personal on a business blog?)

For example, I share my personal interests and my life on my personal blog site: www.demetriazinga.com.

Then I have my business blog (this one) where I talk about everything techie and marketing related for the work at home mom… www.wahmuniversity.com/blog.

And of course, there are my podcasts which are also blogs: www.christianladiestalkradio.com and www.christianladiesbusinessaradio.com.

And now– this blog is officially a podcast as well!!! (WAHM University Podcast!!)
Now as for money –I definitely don’t see blogging as a major source of income for most of us entrepreneurs, but you can absolutely make a few bucks by selling ad space or by using Google Adsense.

So why would a business person want to blog?

Since I’m more of a podcasting techie, I can give you the reasons podcasting is definitely the way to go for my business!

1.) First of all, I’m able to showcase my expertise by podcasting and blogging.

2.) As my site grows with information about product or service with each post, Google is busy catching my growing site with its little “spider”, making my site more visible all the time

3.) It’s a cheaper and more functional way of designing and updating a website (rather than hiring out a web design company)

4.) It’s transferable - you can back up your files and shift them around from server to server, especially servers which use cPanel and Wordpress

5.) It’s part of the growing trend of Web 2.0. Static sites are slowly becoming obsolete as this new media rich, social networking, social bookmarking, always connecting society is changing the way we do things.

If you want your business to be on the scene of new trends, keeping up with them is not hard. Your business will only benefit from being in the trenches of new networking trends…

Listen in on today’s podcast, then leave your comments below:

Do you think every online business should consider using a blog?

Twitter for business and marketing?

twitter-for-business-and-marketing

I’m really into social media sites these days. Twitter has been a new one for me and I’m enjoying that…

One of the main questions I asked myself, though, was whether or not Twitter would be useful for me in terms of my business. Of course, you can’t totally use Twitter for the sole purpose of business marketing– that would defeat the purpose of its function. But it’s interesting to note, nonetheless, that there are some really savvy ways to use this platform to your advantage if you’re an online business owner.

What I’m liking about Twitter is that the main goal is to answer one main question: “What Are You Doing?” Throughout the day you post small snippets (one-liners) about your activities at the moment. You get to “follow” your friends and see what they’re doing. Post updates, get advice, invite others into your world…

In my opinion it’s much simpler than instant messaging since you don’t have to respond intermittently. However, it is very addictive and can leave some people with the feeling of being “out of the loop” if they haven’t updated in a while, or if they come back to the PC and find that so much has happened that they’ve “missed out on”.

But I’m finding that this phenomenon is leading to some business networking as I was able to connect and re-connect with business partners and create joint ventures through Twitter! There are also opportunities to get others involved or interested in your project when you let them in on what you’re doing at the moment. In all, you can use Twitter for business in some of the following ways:

  • personal branding
  • hiring people
  • getting feedback
  • direct traffic to your sites
  • make new friends
  • scope out prospects

Then there’s TeamSugar

This site’s a little different in that you earn points for a number of different types of activities you perform on the site. After a certain amount of points you can redeem them for rewards.

It’s cool– but doesn’t lend to the business owner in the way of professional exposure online–a.k.a, getting the word out there about your business. ..

Twitter, on the other hand, is so viral in nature…once you get the word out (your link), it spreads…

So, do you use Twitter? Would you incorporate Twitter into your online marketing plan? Do tell! Leave your feedback below:

Tooting my own horn

Over at Marie Ynami’s Mommy Community, she’s hosting a Toot Your Own Horn Tuesday “or Tuesday Toot” :-)

Sometimes in business we have to relax a bit and just enjoy each other and our accomplishments.

So my accomplishments this week so far…

I finally got in touch with Alyssa Avant and she has graciously agreed to become our new Teen Coach for Christian Ladies Talk Radio. Yeah!

I’m also nearly finished with PinkPods.net, my new site that showcases my podcast production services. This has been in the making for about a year, and I’m so glad to have finally set aside time for this.

And most of all, I’m so happy for the new addition to my family this year, Zoe Saraiah Faith. She’s now 2 months old and quickly growing.
