Ultimate Skin Care Routine

My Skin Care Routine

Ultimate Skin Care Routine

Hey ladies! I’ve gotten several private Facebook messages and texts lately, people hittin’ me up on Instagram about the different beauty products I use, skin care routine and mascara I choose. So, I decided to write a blog 🙂 I want it to be a place where you can get your questions answered on what the products do and why I use them, but I’ll try to be brief as makeup and skin care stuff should be fun! All the pictures except for a few should be clickable and will take you to amazon where I purchase most of my makeup. If I don’t get it there, it’s usually Sephora. Oh, and if you buy from one of those links…I get a little pocket change for referring you at no cost to you. 🙂

1. Wash and prep face

2. Prep eyes with foundation and complete eyes and eyebrows

3. Apply foundation

4. Apply concealer to under-eyes, chin and in between eyebrows

5. Set with powder so creamy foundation doesn’t settle in fine lines

5. Blush and browner and highlighter if desired

6. Set and finish!

Moisturizers & Face/Body Washes

Let’s start here. The prep of your face is so important because how your makeup goes on will affect how it looks on your face. Make sure you wash your face in the AM & PM to get rid of all the days and nights toxins. It makes a huge difference!

Purity Facewash

Purity Facewash by Philosophy

I started using the face wash because I was tired of makeup being leftover on my face from my Neutrogena brand and on top of that, having to then buy an eye makeup remover as well. This is a one stop shop for me. I wear mascara and eyeliner – sometimes waterproof and this wash is gentle and does the trick. I never have “leftover” foundation or concealer left on my face. It’s great for all skin types too. My husband who has sensitive skin uses it frequently and has had no dryness or breakout issues.

Argan Oil

Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil

This was a recommendation by a makeup artist I like and I was skeptical at first. Why? Because this teeny bottle is not cheap. However, neither is the product. It lasts a long time, hydrates my skin like nothing I have ever used before and is gentle, anti-inflammatory, and a great prep for nighttime.

One small drip of 2-3 drops on my fingertips at night cover my face and neck and it slowly absorbs. I wake up feeling dewy and not oily. After, I wash my face with Purity to remove the toxins that have expelled overnight from sleep (or our pillowcases!) *Remember to change your pillowcases often as it will leave residue on your skin from hair oils.

The best thing is that this oil can be used anywhere. Hair. Nails. Dry skin. It’s wonderful, gentle, and versatile.

Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion

Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion

I’m not really sure why they call it “lotion” but I use this as a toner for my skin in between the purity wash and argan oil. It clears my pours, is very gentle (some toners are very harsh!) and keeps me clear from breakouts.

Other Badescu Products I like:

Enzyme Cleansing Gel – it’s a non-foaming cleanser, makeup remover and a great daily face wash!
Herbal Hydrating Serum – this is like blue magic! It’s my nightly mositruizer and is truly nothing short of amazing. It’s cleared up my dry skin and those fine lines that were showing up because of the weather…not because I’m getting older.

Foundations & Concealer

I’m constantly switching these up and trying new products, but these have been my staples for about 8 months now. I mix these products together (minus the concealer) to get the perfect shade. Sounds time-consuming, but it’s not. A little squirt of mac foundation, one pump lumi foundation and one pump illuminizer and my foundation brush does the rest!

Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation – SPF 15 – great when mixed. Not sheer coverage, but not cakey thick.

Loreal True Match Lumi Foundation – creamy and dewy

Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer – gives a nice glow

Mac Prolong Wear Concealer

I don’t like most concealers because they cake. This one does not and it doesn’t crease. It also lasts ALL day. Thru crying and heat, it does it all.

Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray

Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray – Find at Sephora!

Best spray that actually sets your makeup. I’ve tried a lot that don’t! With a toddler touching my face all day, cooking and running around the house/errands/etc. this stuff does the trick to keep all that work in place. 🙂

Mascara & Eyes

  Stila In the Light Palette

 Stila In the Light Palette

I LOVE this palette and use it daily. It’s by far my favorite palette I own because I tend to like neutrals and browns/pinks for my eye lids. But you can see it has a nice blue and black as well. The shades are really well pigmented too, so you don’t have to use a lot on your brushes and it stays all day.

Mascara Bundle

I layer my mascaras. WHA? Yes, you heard me correctly. I have very short lashes and they are very light. I always use to wear one coat of mascara and use one brand and not really work about it. But, I hate false lashes (and frankly, who has time to put those on for day-to-day)? So, I saw a makeup artist do this one time and I thought it was genius! It totally works. You don’t want to let your first layer completely dry because you add the next.

I usually go in this order:

1. Revlon Grow Luscious

2. Clinique High Impact Mascara

3. Maybelline The Falsies Volum Express – Flared

I don’t do a full face everyday but these products are so versatile they can work for a heavy day of makeup or very very light. It all depends on how you apply it. If you’re looking for great makeup tutorials that anyone can do, check out Jaclyn Hill on Youtube. I’ve spent lots of time just learning and gleaning all the information I can from her. She’s quirky fun too and I love watching the transformations.
